The Jedi Mind Trick

One of the things that disturbed me most in late 2022 wasn't the arrival of artificial intelligence. It was something much quieter.

Suddenly, all of humanity was prompting an AI. Almost no one was prompting us.

Then something even stranger happened. We were led, almost unknowingly, to believe we should compare ourselves to a machine.

So, we did.

And of course we came up short. The machine knows everything. It processes at the speed of light. It never gets tired.

But turn things around. Compare the machine to us.

It isn't even a fair fight.

It doesn't really think. It pretends — very well. It can't imagine. It has no original thoughts. It could never create us. Only we could create it.

The Real Question

The real question was never whether AI will replace us. Or whether it will destroy us.

The real question is this: when everything that can be measured is automated, what is left?

The answer is everything that got us here in the first place.

When efficiency is optimized and commoditized down to the ground, all we will have left is all that ever mattered to begin with — our originality, our ideas, our imagination, our values, our kindness, and above all, our trust.

And it is trust that becomes the real competitive advantage. Trust will be the moat and the switching cost.

The Distraction Was Intentional

Some will call me naive. A Pollyanna. That's fine. Honestly, I don't care. Have at it.

What I care about is using AI to reveal who we really are — to find new ways to think, and to compete. To throw out the old playbooks and write the new ones.

Because this fear, that AI will replace us or kill us, is an enormous distraction.

It was intentional, by an industry that got very good at monetizing fear.

But I think it's time we caught on. Isn't enough, enough?

Sure, everyone loves a good horror story.

But I'm here to share some news. As disappointing as it may seem:

Everything is going to be just fine.

Conclusion

The most effective misdirection of the AI era wasn't a lie about machines. It was a lie about us. We were led to compare ourselves to something that can't imagine, can't trust, and couldn't have created itself. When everything that can be measured is automated, what's left is everything that ever mattered — originality, ideas, imagination, kindness, and trust. The fear that AI will replace or destroy us was intentional, engineered by an industry that got very good at monetizing fear. It's time we caught on. Everything is going to be just fine.
